Poor Maddy roused herself awake after the four hour drive from Woodstock VA to Allentown PA and promptly started her interview at Muhlenberg College, then toured their amazing dance rehearsal and performance studios. She really liked it. Met her criteria -- small, old buildings, very nice people, and the dance department felt & looked richly inviting. The facilities were over the top, the proximity to NYC even more enticing.
I liked it too, 'cause they seemed to see their role as educating, inspiring, and nurturing 18-24 year olds who also happened to have a thing for dance. Anyone can take dance classes; no auditions are required to major or minor (although they are required to apply for scholarships); they host numerous student-choreographed and student performed dances, with the emphasis on learning & experiencing & excelling rather than competing.
Poor Mads could barely string coherent sentences together (and even in the best of health she detests talking about herself in the way prospective colleges prefer). But she hung in (and then fell back asleep on the drive from Allentown to Hartford).
209 N was lovely, winding through Bushkill in the Poconos (didn't visit the falls, but they seemed to be the highlight), ate real Italian food at Petrizzo's. The drive was gorgeous, especially after twighlight, the rich dark blue sky littered with stars. Maddy slept peacefully.
And I kinda wondered how the hell I might actually pay for this.
