A good friend who recently landed in another country just shared this story.
She decided to explore the region's largest city alone one day. Coming in from the outskirts, she took a bus deep enough to intersect with the inner city subway. At the station she searched upwards of an hour for a subway kiosk & entrance so she could pay for & start the day's adventure. Only to finally realize it was all the same platform, she'd already paid, and, at least as far as Toronto mass transit was concerned, her journey'd already begun.
Kind of a perfect metaphor. Doesn't matter if we're lost, paid up, or familiar with the rules ... the journey began a long time ago.
